The universal debate on how to spell the word magic has been going on for centuries, but the question is, is there anything
different about each spelling? Do they mean something different? Is one evil, one good and one neutral? The answer is no,
magic, magik, and magick are basically the same practice; they originate from the same religion and follow the same principles.
So why the different spellings?
Now before you all revert back to the common stereotypical view of magic being rabbits coming out of hats and the never
ending handkerchief, I’m not talking about the fake, hidden string kind of magic, I’m talking about the kind of
magic that can make it rain, the kind of magic that enchants people with love, luck and prosperity. Most of you probably think
this is no different to the rabbit and hat trick, it must be rigged or maybe coincidence. Perhaps it is or perhaps it isn’t,
the truth is no-one can prove it’s existence either way.
One thing I wondered
though, is if millions of people all over the world can believe that there is a supernatural being greater than all of us
and powerful enough to create the world, then why can’t we believe in magic, in witchcraft and spells, the same goes
for people who believe in ghosts and aliens. Many people argue that if you can’t prove it, it isn’t real, but
has anyone ever proved god exists? No, but does this make these people believe in him any less? No. Magic is like god, it’s
something you can’t see, or prove but something you believe in, something that may be rigged or coincidence but can
just
as easily be a supernatural force eminating from you.

The stereotype of witches being evil has existed nearly
as long as the practice itself. Witchcraft was once seen in both lights, there was good magic and bad magic, there was a kind
of magic that helped the prehistoric hunt and a magic that killed and cursed. Up until the birth of Christianity people could
distinct between the two, but suddenly religion named witchcraft as worship of the devil. Witches were evil, satanic murders.
Many of the world still believe this, but why? Is it because they have proven it? Have they caught someone having a McDonalds
with the devil himself? No of course not. It’s because they are afraid to believe in something different, in something
that many have spouted out as being impossible, there for either a hoickes or evil.
You may ask, what do I know? What right do I have to spout off about witchcraft, I probably don’t even believe in it
right? Wrong, I have been a practicing witch for five years, I’ve done spells on my own and in a group or a couple,
I’ve done spells that have worked and spells that haven’t, spells on myself and spells on others, spells for love
and luck, spells I’ve found and spells I’ve created. I’ve read about the history of magic and witchcraft
and learnt the principles of the religion of Wicca. I admit I don’t know
everything, but I know enough to know, witchcraft is an endless possibility, it’s something beauty that anyone can do.
It’s not like Sabrina the teenage witch or Charmed, you don’t have to be born into it to practice it and be able
to cast a spell, you just have to believe.
